Has anyone managed to get a form V112 which apparently needs signing and sending along with your V5C (logbook) to DVLA to register your pre 1978 vehicle as a vehicle of Historic interest, which will mean that you will no longer require an MOT and your vehicle tax will be free.
The forms on the DVLA website are not up to date and my local post office has not heard of the form or the changes even though the changes come into play on the 20th of May.

Although what I have read was not entirely clear I thought that if your vehicle was already taxed as a historic vehicle you did not need to do anything further. If you wanted to change the tax class to historic vehicle to claim free road tax and MOT exemption you would have to make a declaration.

The reverse of that form only lists vehicles registered or manufactured prior to 1st Jan 1960. Knowing my local post office I suspect they may not accept it

As I understand it you need do nothing. But you will have to make a declaration each time the vehicke is taxed that it remains exempt. The following is from the DVLA site: You won’t have to apply to stop getting an MOT for your vehicle.
However, each time you tax your historic vehicle (even if you don’t pay a fee), you’ll have to declare it meets the rules for not needing an MOT.

Hi Vince. Good question - I don't think it will require a MOT (both my Crusader Continentals are currently on SORN), but I suspect you will find out when you come to "tax" the bike after 20 May when using the DVLA online road tax system. I understand the system will ask you to confirm that it meets the criteria for not requiring an MOT. I forgot to add to my previous post that there are other conditions that must be met to be MOT exempt apart from being over 40 years of age - in particular the vehicle must not be "substantially modified". There is a PDF on the DVLA web site which explains the new criteria in some detail.

I spoke to the DVSA on this and the current V112 is out of date as Papasmurf says. The correct forms will be at the Post Office and not immediately available online. I was told you complete this form at the post office and that's it! They suggest taking the V5C along, just in case, and proof of insurance if you want to tax it. From what I have read on the Gov website, by signing the form you are effectively declaring the vehicle to be road worthy, rather than a test station.

My local post office, which deals with vehicle tax hasn't got the forms and didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I want it sorted before the end of May as I shall be claiming back the tax I have already paid.
