Can anyone help with a code or some sort of name of the Red used by Enfield on their 1936 500J model?

Hello PAPAS 36}----
These days if you take a paint sample along to your local Automotive paint supplier they can scan it and find the actual ( or nearest ) RAL code for you........ Have a look at this}--- http://www.ralcolor.com/ ---- and also this}---- http://technicalpaintservices.co.uk/pag ... or-ral-pai ------- There are other standards but this seems to be the most popular......I had my T140 Bonny side panels matched to its' tank colours using this method....

Thank you so much for that advice . It's amazing what can be done these days . Unfortunately I don't have a sample piece in the red to supply to take advantage of these types of services . I will now be hunting ! Cheers from OZ Alan 👍🍻

My friend Chris runs a pair of 1938 J models, one oily rag and the other, an outfit, he painted Post Office Red (also known as Cherry,) which is still a British Standard colour. You may also find it as Australian Standard R15, Crimson according to this website: http://www.e-paint.co.uk/Colour_alterna ... /%20Cherry No guarantees that this is perfect but as a colour it has a long history!

Hi Guys
Talking of my old employer ( GPO or Royal Mail ) reminded me of another one with a variation on Red and that is "Signal Red"..........I was a Diesel Technician for a few years on British Railways ( WR ) at the old Reading Diesel Depot....As I've never knowingly seen a 1936 RE 500J in Red I'm clutching at straws---maybe ??

1936 500 J ?

Black enamel...

Now, if it were the JF (four valve) we would be talking black and maroon enamel.

Thanks for that. Mine is a 1936 500j. Yes my frame was black enamel, though I've had the serial numbers on my bike verified by Royal Enfield in the U.K. and my bike was bought by a doctor in Brisband Australia. It came into Hopers Cycles on the 24th of September 1936. He took every option available on the bike and he ordered this bike with red guards and a chrome and red tank from factory. Unfortunately Enfield don't have a colour code for that far back so I'm either chasing a part from that time in red or someone who is able to get a scan of a bike / part that they may have from that period. Cheers, Dave 👍
