Dear all, please help me out here. Last week I drove 3 and a half hours through the poring rain with my 2004 Sixty5. I was soaked to the skin but the bike didn't miss a beat. After a short stop however, the e-starter didn't work any more. No prob, one kick and I was able to finish my trip. At home in the garage I tried the e-starter again, with the same result. Only a "click" but no turning over. I tried tapping the solenoid with a small hammer without result.
Btw, it started fine with the e-starter when I started my trip. What could be causing this problem?

Use a bigger hammer? (Seriously though it is probably due to water getting into something, and/or the battery has not got enough guts in it to work the solenoid.)

Hi guys---Mr. Smurf, you're a man after my own heart with that hammer suggestion LoL !!!......Hello STEEL}---As a fellow '65 owner/rider myself I'm hoping that my suggestion coming up soon is going to be wrong !!...If -- after pressing the start button, the battery is then too weak to hold a solenoid in place you'll usually get a very familiar "click-click-click-click" sound where the battery has enough to power the solenoid windings but not enough to also power the starter motor and so releases...This cycle of actuate/release will continue whilst you keep the starter motor button pressed down, hence that sound...At this stage swap to a known OK battery and continue testing ( I use my spare car battery for this ).......... Now in your case you say it is just the one "Click" and then stays actuated ??......There is a "test" which involves by-passing the solenoid windings with a screwdriver or spanner but if you're not used to doing this sort of thing it's best left to others to do......Having done this either the starter motor has sprung into life and motored the engine over OR------ a big blue flash and nothing !!......And this is where, as I said earlier I hope I'm wrong because that would seem to indicate that the SPRAG clutch has jammed the starter!!................and that has already been covered on this forum previously......Incidentally this also applies to those Classic 500 ES models as well.......Sorry.

Papa, Alan, next week will be the first opportunity to start working on the bike. I will begin with the battery and see how that works out. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks for your advice.

Solenoid: Check that you have power at the solenoid, then try bridging the solenoid.?

The stock sol v/v is not very robust, and lacks a drain hole in the event it gets water in it...

I fit replacements that were intended for Quads or Jet skis.
