Hi.

I have recently purchased a 1953 British made Model G and I'm pretty sure that some of the parts fitted are wrong.

When I purchased the bike the footrests were off-set and now having repositioned them as per the illustration in my service guide it now looks like the rear brake lever is too short. The brake lever on the service illustration also looks to be much longer.

I have taken a photo but it doesn't look like I am able to upload it here. The lever fitted measures 14 inches from the very front of the lever to the very back of the lever arm.

I have uploaded the photo here - http://honeybeeretreat.co.uk/Rear-Brake-Lever.jpg

I would be really grateful if a Model G owner would be kind enough to confirm the length of their rear brake lever.

Thanks :-)

There are several levers that look very similar (Model G, Model J, WD/CO etc) so we'll need a bit more info. The tape measure in your pic covers the actual pedal almost completely! Can you post link to a side on pic as well please?

Mr G, if you look in the Used Parts and Bikes section here there are some pics of a 1949 Model G with a good shot of the left side. It seems to show a different pedal to yours. I'm not sure if this changed by 1953, the illustration in the Parts Book can't be taken as gospel I'm afraid! However, the one in the photo of our Host's bike looks like it fits properly so fairly convincing...

Thanks for the help guys. The 1949 Model G does look very similar and the lever is definitely much longer than mine so it may be that I have the wrong one fitted. That said, Dave from Hitchcocks emailed me some photos directly of a Model G that they have in the shop and it has the same length lever as I have and the pedals have been set at a backwards angle to compensate. I have had a pile of new bits turn up from Hitchcocks today including a new footrest bar (the threads are stripped from the current on) so I'll try fitting it this weekend and let you know how it goes. Thanks again :-)

Hello Mr Ginger,
Your lever seems OK, but your footrest is far too forward, 1/4 turn backward should be enough.
Hope it will help you
Claude
