Hi gents. I have to replace the stator on my 1996 535cc, and I bought a new Lucas one from our hosts. But replacing it entails, inter alia, replacing the pigtail grommet – and the swine won’t go in! Before I cause any damage, does anyone have a suggestion for how to fit the grommet? I presume it fits from the inside of the casing so the flat large diameter part is inside – that’s how it is shown in the Hitchcocks parts book. I have considered opening the hole in the chaincase inner another half mm or so but it is already at ~11.5mm so it should be fine, and in any case I’d have to remove the inner case to modify that hole and I didn't want to go that far for what should be a simple job.
Anyone got any other thoughts on how to deal with this pig-of-a-grommet? Cheers, ChrisD

Grommets need to be warm to fit, plus a lubricant, some people object to washing up liquid, but coconut grease is useful for the purpose and only about £1 a pot and has many uses in the workshop.

Hi when I replace the grommet I thead a bit of quarter inch cord down the hole through the grommet and a small washer then tie s knot in end of cord, a smear of oil line it up snd pull. When fitting the stator wires through much easier to do one at a time oil lube on the plastic of the last one piece of cake.
