hi all,took my 1991 bullet 500 in for mot, tester said my pilot lights are not correct as they give of blue light not white as the headlight chance them back to white, has anybody herd of this many thanks phil

Mine are a little blue as well, but some cars have mercury halide headlamps and they look blue too.



Ask him what range of colour on the kelvin scale is acceptable. That should sort him out.

Our mot station is very hot on this, lamps will be white, any hint of blue is a fail, but this is down to the testers interpretation of the rules, I bet there is test stations out there that allow blue/white lamps thru.

Easy peasy.. Put white bulbs in for the MOT. Change them again afterwards...

Where i go just as long as the bike has 2 wheels and an engine it will pass. We just stand there talking about her for 40mins....... ed

Here in Denmark, we don't have to MOT motorbikes unless we sell them. They are MOT tested in connection with buying one. When I went to get Thumper tested, after I'd bought him, the guy at the test station took a look at him from a distance and asked about the gears. I explained about the gearshift being on the right, the neutral finder and the foot brake on the left. He'd never seen a Royal Enfield before but he is obliged to ride the bike as part of the test. I had to start Thumper for him as he couldn't do it..

He mounted the bike, put him in 1st and pulled away. Ten minutes later he came back, pushing the bike. I feared the worst. No, he hadn't dropped the bike but the gears had confused him no end. He was obviously embarrassed.. It's a lovely looking machine, he said. It sounds great. It looks like new. I'm not going to waste any more of your time.

He stamped the papers there and then and never checked a damn thing further..!!

I go there with my car now too... We've become good friends.

White light?


Your typical incandescent bulb actually emits a Yellow light...


Technically LEDs emit only ONE very narrow frequency of the visible light spectrum. Where as 'white' light is a combination of all frequencies. As such so-called 'white' LED are for the most part all in the 'blue' frequency range...

They come with different shades nowadays, from bluey through to warm white.

The maximum legal colour temperature for UK road legal bulbs is 4200K.
Above this a blue tinge is introduced making them illegal for on road use- The only exception being the Philips White vision range of bulbs @ 4300K because of their composite envelope composition which despite the higher temperature colour does not introduce any blue discolouration to the emitted white light.
