I am still on the hunt for a used RE Bullet

Bike will be used as a commuter for approx 40 miles a day , most miles are back roads & A roads so need to be able to run @ 60 mph + to keep up with traffic

I took my first RE out for a test ride a 2010 Bullet efi , it was low mileage bike less than 1000 miles and was great to ride however was disappointed with crusing speed , 50 mph was ok but I could only get bike up to approx 65 mph , My neighbour has a 500 efi bullet and says that it will hold 65 - 70 fine , so wondering if the bike I rode was still not run in ?

Have seen another RE a 2005 Electra x up for 2k , hopefully if it stops raining this week will give this one a go

Is there much difference between the Bullet EFI & Electra X ?

Is 2 k a fair price for a 2005 Electra x with 9000 miles on the clock ?

Am I asking too much for a 60 -65 mph crusing speed from a RE ?

I can't live with 50 mph crusing speed on commute it would be dangerous , real shame as really enjoyed riding the RE bullet

Strange thing my neighbour says his bullet cruises @ 65 -70 mph ?

Wonder if he has tweaked with a high way kit / gearing change ?

My advise is go for an EFI Steve, they are designed for sustained speeds.
I found dealers demonstrator held 72 mph no problem on the M1.

Steve, Stu is right, the UCE's have a better cruising speed but if your neighbour can cruise his 65 at 70 mph then get a 65 because they must be good, but be prepared to rebuild the motor when it goes bang and it surely will. Only trying to help, you ask we tell

The trouble was that I did take a EFI bullet out and could not get more than 65 mph top speed out of it

The bike had only done 600 miles so not fully run in

I'm also a big chap @ 17 stones which will not help

My neighbour has a EFI UCE bullet , so was surprised when he said that his crusied @ 65 ok , will try another EFI uce bullet with a few more miles on it as really would like a RE

hi steveg i had a 2007 500 last of the iron barrel 500s i tweeked it amal concetric carb goldie exhaust up a tooth on the final drive it cruised happily at 60/65 i was clocked at 85 by a mate riding behind on a 650 hyosung v twin on a rideout to weymouth.i had the bike from new .isold it 2years ago with 1500mls on the clock i still have an enfield a700 twin of the 60s.i never had any problems with the bullet regular oil changes is the secret every1200mls i changed mine.good luck.

Have you seen the posting for 2010 Electra EFI, nicley run in with about 5000 miles on the clock - that is one hell of an offer if you ask me!!

steveg, I do not want to offend our hosts BUt for the riding and speeds you are demanding I would respectfully suggest that an Enfield is not the ideal bike. If I was wanting a "British" looking bike for what you have specified then I would buy a Hinckley Bonneville. I don't know where you are but if you are in Blighty and near the East Midlands, then you are more than welcome to try my Thruxton.
