Has anyone changed their speedo to MPH ? If so how do get on with it, is it accurate? And which one did you use. My original is KPH with mph but is a little difficult to read and reading quite a bit faster.

Hi, Fitted a smiths electronic analogue speedo. Hall effect sensor drives off the standard speedo drive gear box so no magnets to glue to the wheel rim or clamp to the spokes. Expensive but 50 mph = 50mph, bliss and looks the part.

I have the Hitchcocks black "Smiths" speedo and like it a lot. Bobw's does sound really nice, though. (Remember to put the rubber ring the right way round when you replace.) I've seen quite a few tilting the speedo towards the rider. It needs to ne AWAY from. atb, Chris

The scale on my Lightnings speedo is in KPH only (being a grey import). I fitted a Motrax speedo converter (similar in method to the one listed above). It works perfectly. However, since the markings for KPH are close together, it makes reading the speedo in MPH tricky when you glance at it (Am I doing 55pmh or just under 60?). I'm happy with it though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the speedo is identical in every way apart from the dial. I wonder if it might be possible to buy an mph dial, or maybe borrow one, photocopy it and print out your own. Just thinking out loud.

As long as you use the same type of speedo to get the MPH it should be fine.



Check that the zero's line up and that the 50MPH lines up with the 80KPH (Well, almost exactly), same with 75MPH and 120 KPH and also 100MPH and 161 KPH. That will be close enough. Easy if you can print on thin paper first and overlay on speedo to check.



50 MPH = 80.47 KPH

75 MPH = 120.7 KPH

100 MPH = 160.93 KPH



Add the RE logo, or the bike's name as well maybe?

Scaly and I agree, then. I've designed and printed my own watch dials, so it should be easy peasy to print a new dial for the Bullet kph speedo, rather than messing about with converters, which will most likely leave half the dial unused.

I should point out that printing a new dial will still leave the odometer in kilometres, but so long as you label it clearly on the new dial that surely wouldn't matter.
