Does anyone know what the grease nipple on top of the 4speed gearbox is for? How much grease does it take?

It is for grease.

I shove the tecalemit gun down on it twice, every few weeks.

It makes me look intelligent, doing it in the parking area in front of the Hollyville Cafe

on older bullets there is one on the brake lever pivot and also the speedometer drive on the wheel (on the bottom)

Kevin the Meteor Minor also has one on each end of the swinging arm. Are there any more I might have missed?

Thanks lads, I had an idea it was for grease.(ho,ho,ho). Had a loook at the diagram Beezabryan, but too small on my tablet screen to make out exactly what was being greased. (Probably wouldn't have recognised it's function anyway!)

Wilf, the grease nipple is for the clutch arm shaft, which is found just behind the cover. If you ever take the cover off you'll see it and it attaches to the inside of the outer cover itself, it's worth keeping it lubricated :-)

Thanks Chris, all greased up and adjusted clutch while I was at it.

Scalyback, two shots every few weeks is far too much. Won't do any harm but is overkill. Mine gets one shot every oil change. Also, DON'T overdo the brake pivot one or you'll have grease in the brake - not good.

Depends which bake pivot, I assumed it was the rear brake pivot which a long way away from the brake drum.

I'd go for annual on the gearbox nipple. Its in a protected spot and isn't likely to be vastly improved with too much grease. Moreover with a weekly squirt you'll fill up the outer cover eventually.
