This August I will be celebrating my Golden Bike aniversary! I have been riding bikes since August 1965. I started biking, as did many then, as transport to work. I lived within a couple of miles of work and used my push bike, but my dad changed jobs and we were moving away and to much higher ground, so I needed more power! Nearly bought a used Enfield crusader Airflow from Wilf Greens, our local Enfield dealer, but my dad, who was going to be guarantor on the HP, said old british bikes always break down so I should get a new bike. I first looked at a Raleigh Wisp moped, but finaly bought a Honda C114 50cc Sports. And so it began! Don't know what to do to celebrate, apart from lubricate my insides, but have a bit of time to think!

I have just realised that it is 50 years this year since I started motorcycling! OK - my first bike was a scooter but I guess that counts as it was soon changed for an AJS. Sadly the scooter was actually a lot more reliable than my AJS turned out to be!

This made me think. Just realised I passed my bike test in June 1965 on a BSA C11g 250 !
The bike test was much different then !!!

Only just over 6 years here But in my defence I did pass on Friday the 13th.... and when I got to work later that morning I was working for the health service. I was training to do needles... the blood donor was about to give his 13th donation... and he was to be my 13th needle ever! It all went fine, must have been a VERY lucky day for me!

Chas, talking of your C11, the first bike I ever rode was an Ariel Colt, the 200 cc badge enguneered version of the BSA. It belonged to a mate I met while in the ATC. (Air training corps). We used to ride up and down some spare ground near my grand parents house. When I got my Honda he could leave me for dead on the flat or down hill, but couldn't keep up, up hill! He was once trying to re assemble the gear box in the front room of his house and complaining he couldn't get a gear shaft into its bearing. His dad said an old reply, "put some hair round it, you'll find it!"

Hi guys !!---- First bike was a red and white 50cc Norman Nippy paid for by working Sats. in the back yard at the local Littlewoods Store whilst still at school..... First managed clutch/throttle balance on a C15 in the Summer of 1964..Joined the RN as an ERA ( Apprentice)in Sept. 1965 when I bought my first "Proper" motorcycle from Alexanders in Edinburgh...This was a Honda CB160....... When I left the RN I did 5 years Grass Tracking within the Southern Centre ACU ( Plus a Winter Speedway training session with dear old Lew Coffin at the Weymouth track. )........... Retired now at age 65 I usually do 2 ride-outs a week with "The Lads", and if we don't see at least 100 miles per run then it's been a waste of time !!.......... Have just bought a 1985 Honda XBR500... PS}--- YES, I've forgotten how to do that paragraph thingy, ...AGAIN !!................ Best regards to you all !!

Just realised it's mine too. Started on a tiger cub in '64 and passed my test on an Ariel Arrow early '65. Progressed onto a Speed Twin and then a BSA Shooting Star. Wish I'd kept them all. Pursuit of the fairer sex kept me away from bikes for a few years but returned to the fold in the mid 70's with a brand new Yamaha XS 650 B. Lovely bike, reminded me of a Bonney. After a Honda 550 four and cx 500 I had a string of trail bikes and here I am now with "Tinker" my 500 Bullet.
