Firstly thanks to all who responded to/read my request for help with my Boyer. Think we have found the problem in that someone I also contacted had a similar problem a few years ago on his BSA. He did all the same tests and fault finding as myself (coil test ignition lead swops etc) and came to the conclusion that 1 ignition trigger had stopped working and by running the coils in parallel you could overcome it as both coils were being fired by the 1 impulse. He replaced the system and it's still working fine. I suspected the triggers but this has helped confirm.

Posted to help any others on the forum as electronic ignition has become more standard with owners I meet and trying to track faults is stressful shall we say. I will however stick to points for my 57 Bullet as its easier in my mind with far more tolerance of issues (e.g. battery down).

Thanks for taking the time to update Hugh, Always good to know how something was fixed..

I wonder if there was any change in resistance in the none working trigger, something to help identify a problem when comparing with a known good one..

Points on the bullet will be fine as they only need a clean and check now and again and most of us like something to fiddle with anyway..

I'll let you know. From my conversation it would appear everything was exactly the same fault as mine with all the same tried and failed remedies.
I'll be in the workshop next week and if anything more comes to light I'll add a further post.

Sorry to put a downer on this but it is very unlikely that that these coils are causing your problem, these two coils are fitted in series and link together to supply just one pulse, if one of the coils were to fail then it would break the circuit and stop the other one working.

I have not looked back to you original thread but I believe it was TimNZ who stated that the fault had to be with one of the coils/HT lead, he is correct.

The Boyer system uses a wasted spark Ie both plugs spark at the same time both fired by one pulse whether the coils are in parallel or series it will do the same, the only trouble with the coils in parallel is that it overloads the electronic box.

As Dennis said, if there is a break ANYWHERE in the Boyer reluctor (trigger) circuit, then there is NO spark from either coil. Go back and start again.
