Evening folks.

Whilst riding my 1966 Crusader Sports the rear chain snapped ( although quite new). I have replaced to chain and re-set the clutch , it is smooth in operation but on my test ride I could only get 1st and (I think) 2nd gear.
I suspect the chain snapped because the 3rd/4th gear locked up in the gearbox. Perhaps the selector fork?

I have read the "C for Crusader" engine , gearbox rebuild article but it is not detailed enough to explain how to get into the box. I have removed the offside engine cover and the cable operating lever and the nuts which appear to hold the gearbox cover but after that I am stuck.

Has any body any ideas please ? Does any body know where I can get a more detailed explanation how to dismantle and rebuild a gear box please?
Cheers, Mick

Hi Mick, If it is a gearbox problem and not just the selector mechanism needing adjustment, it is possibly a broken mainshaft sleeve. This is rare, but not unknown in these engines, as well as the bigger ones with separate gearboxes. They break across oil holes drilled into them and the higher gears lose their drive. Whatever, you definitely need a workshop manual and I am sure you will be able to get one at Hitchcocks. Regards, Paul.
