Offham Steam, motorcycle and car rally 2014

"Every year, the Offham Steam Rally simply happens. The Sunday before the end of British Summer Time this Kentish village, not far from the trunk road network, fills with an enormous variety of transport.

There is no organisation, no officialdom, but the village green vanishes beneath lines of vintage and classic cars, with a border path providing useful hard-standing for bikes. Refreshments and a barbecue are courtesy of the adjacent pub."

YES, OH YES!

"Offham is a quiet village which is situated near to Maidstone, Kent, being close to the M20 and M26 junctions, just off the south east corner of the M25. Once a year, the inhabitants wake up to unbearable noise as hundreds of visitors in old vehicles tear up the village green with no thought for those that actually live there."

This year happens next Sunday 19th October. The Kent section of the REOC will be meeting at 10:am at ... (Bertie the bullet or Michael will fill this in in a post below) and riding to Offham. With a little coaxing, there may be an Enfield ploughing display on the village green.

The local pub is happy to serve beers and food! They are pleased to see us, however all the other residents moan.

Tornado and myself have given notice to attend.

Come and join hundreds of others as we irresponsibly ruin a village green!

I aim to be at the bull at 10:00am, but have not been to Maidstone for many years. Not want to arrive late, so hope Tornado can make up for any botched navigating on my part.

If you approach Maidstone on the A20 you can turn off for Aylesford and go through the village and out on the Forstal Road if you can get across the roundabout near the Running Horses without being run down as this is one of those roundabouts were you need a tank to get round it you can take the Sandling Lane straight there

I am coming from the south west of Maidstone, and I did try a dry run today.

Went up the A26 from Tonbridge, round the one way with no problems, and up boxley road. Way hey! Tornado loved it.

Used as much oil as a two stroke (rings or bore?) but we had a very good ride! Never, ever taken a bike to Maidstone before!

The weather looks a little iffy before 10am towards Maidstone, but offham looks like it should be dry by then.

Tornado had had an extra measure of oil for the distance involved, and his tank is full!

If it is too wet heading for Maidstone, then I will divert to Offham, but all in all, should be a great day!

YAY FOR TOMORROW!
