British pre focus headlamps

I want to change my Iron bullet's headlamp (again)!

He came with an asymmetric...

Assymetric headlamp, pic taken before we had even met in the flesh!

Then I changed to our hosts Neolite with the Philips motorvision bulb...

Very bright, but Tornado's charging circuit failed to handle it...

So I swapped to led day running lamp...

but it is not usable at night as it is not dippable!

But having looked at the old bikes at the Hollyville, I WANT a nice Lucas looking British pre focus lamp like the one our hosts do, or a secondhand original if it will fit? I assume that any 7 inch headlamp shell; old or new; will fit a bullet?.

I know the lamp will fit in a 1994 bullet, but the trouble is that I am not sure where to get the bayonet connector that goes on the back of the bulb, as my bullets wiring has the 1/4 inch spade terminals that fit both the asymmetric and H4 lamps, but not the pre focus. Our Hosts don't seem to list one, but as they say, only about 10% of their stuff is listed, so maybe I should call them?

Has anybody else fitted a curry Enfield with a British pre focus unit? Was it the expected straight forward job of connecting/soldering/heat-shrinking the bayonet connector to the existing wiring? Did the headlamp itself just fit straight in, or were there any unforeseen problems?

P.S. I don;t have a working pilot light in the headlamp shell, as Tornado seems to lack the wiring for it, so that is not a concern.

Thanks Norm, that is useful to know.

Thanks Yorkie, I will take that as gospel, assuming it's UK dip and get them two ordered! I did want an original but the ones on fleabay were either too costly or wrong dip or just bad condition.(Bugger, just had an order yesterday as well!( GRRR!)

I fit the pre focus headlight, you only have to wire in the correct socket. It's otherwise a drop-in. While you have the headlamp out you can simply splice the pilot light into the casquette lamps wiring. I have the standard bulb and lighting at night is fine, but our host offers a halogen one so that might be worth a look.

Scaly, you can always fit a 12v 35/35W H4 bulb in your Neolite headlamp unit and save having to change bulb holders over! Or as your set-up is pre AC direct lighting you can fit a better 12V alternator (proper Lucas RM21 or best available pattern copy, sadly the Sparx versions are not available at the moment) and keep a decent headlamp bulb in there. If you do opt for a Q/H prefocus bulb without uprating the power supply you will end up back at square one! You can of course ignore me, in which case how much do you want for that Neolite unit? :o) Regards, A.

Hope you get to change to the Pre-Focus, Scaly
as looks so authentic.Actually, forgive the unrelated
what query, but was wondering if anyone has sourced
the four piece headlight bracket arrangement shown
clearly on that BSA Gold Star shown with the 7"
chrome headlight on this page, and the pixs taken
at Scaly's cafe meet. Our host has other brackets
which I doen't fancy as much. Haven't glimpsed them
on Ebay as of yet. Thanxs

Gordon, the headlamp bracket arrangement on the Gold Star is a standard GS Clubmans fitting. They are generally available from any decent BSA parts supplier, Supreme perhaps, or any of the Gold Star specialists such as George Prew etc. Sorry Mr. H but I was only trying to be helpful as it appears this bracket arrangement is not available from you guys. HTH.

Thank you, Mike, for pointing me in the right direction.
On hindsight now, all the pixs of Clubman Gold Stars
are so equipted, but had seen this arrangement on cafe
'bikes even in a Tokyo magazine written in Japanese.
Meanwhiile, Scaly, must mention my enjoyment
of more of your rally gathering pixs and green lane
side trips recently. Nice you met Hitler enroute too.
