Before I pull this gearbox apart does anybody know if any Albion parts fit and if no, are any parts available for these boxes? Will the mainshaft fit in an Albion?

Norm, is this the M type gearbox as fitted to the Chief also? It has a completely different front from the usual Albion box? If so, parts are not interchangeable. You could email our Hosts to see what they have. Otherwise you could replace with an ordinary Albion, some Apaches were fitted with them.

Hi Mark,
yes it is the same as the ones fitted to the Chief. I fitted the Apache motor in a Super Meteor yesterday and used the Albion box, not sure what to do with the Apache box, I didn't ride it but apparently it wasn't too good and I thought I had better find out what parts are available before I pulled it to bits

Reports are that the Super Apache is running well he even rode it to work today

Norm, the gears are the parts which really differ, the swinging fork selector and various other change parts are the same and it's likely to be these that are causing the problems, the M series cogs are very heavy and unlikely to wear out!
