Hi folks... my efi's heat shield ovet the silencer has cracked and the rattle has annoyed me for one last time. I went to take it off the other day but the three low profile allen screws that hold it in place on the silencer are all seized solid... and now rounded off... oops. Any ideas given that I want to repair the crack and refit... but dont have anything to grip on to to remove???

The best way is drill a hole down middle of hex and use an ease it out. They work by screwing into the hole you drill in the direction you would unscrew the bolts anti clock.

I have heard that easy outs don't work very well on absolutely, solidly stuck fasteners. Also, do they work as effectively on stainless as opposed to mild steel? I don't want to give myself an even harder time!

Use cobalt drills on the very slowest speed possible. If you use a high speed it will blunt the drill almost imeadiatly as Stainless steel is almost as hard as the drill material & be careful not to snap the extractor in the hole. Go up in small incroments with the drills until very little "shell" is left. A bit of heat from a welding torch may be helpful but that will probably mark the heat shield.

If you don't feel confidant doing it yourself. Why not just take the silencer off and drop it into your local engineering workshop they will do it in a jiffy.
