Hello friends,



Can anyone recommend a mechanic for Enfields in London? (Preferably in the SE area)

I have a 2004 bullet sixty-5, and the rear brake cam just broke. Luckily I was working on the bike and not riding at the time. I'm thinking it's a fair bit of work to fix that on my own, as I'd have to remove the rear wheel and open up the brake assy, which I've never done before. I'd like to give it a try (as I think most of you will recommend), but I'm not confident enough, and free time is a bit of an issue at the moment. So if anyone can recommend a mechanic where I can take my bullet, that would be great. (Also, It would be good to know where I can find a mechanic, for, you know, when I REALLY mess something up..)

Just a thought Kostas, and not wanting or meaning to persuade you into anything you are not confortable trying... but although it looks like a big job, it isn't a big job to get the rear wheel and brake assembly off. Granted, I have done quite mine a few times so have experience and know the tricks though. But to be fair, don't mess with brakes if you aren't confident




And to answer your real question... hopefully someone from south of the border can help

And actually, thinking of it a bit, any bike mechanic should be able to fix that for you - no need to go Enfield specialist. Just let them know to order parts from Hitchcocks!!

Michael, I'm with you in principle. Even though I don't have the experience, I'd rather grab the workshop manual and learn how to fix the issue myself, brakes however are one thing I'm not willing to risk on my inexperience. Plus it would have to wait a while as I'm extremely busy right now, and I'd rather be riding as soon as possible, since the sun decided to pay us a visit..

There is only one way to gain experience. You can't buy it. You can't find it lying in a field...


I would say, have a go at it yourself, noting what you take off and the order in which you did it. If you really can't fix the problem, reassemble and then go to a mechanic. And if it's possible, be there and watch him while he fixes it.

The only way to learn is by doing it or watching someone who can...

TTT Motorcycles at 399 Cambridge Heath Rd, Bethnal Green E2 are probably your nearest RE Dealer and I can recommend them as very professional... EC Bates at 52 West Hill, Dartford, DA1 2EU are also an RE dealer close to you but I've got no experience of them... There is a great 'old school' bike mechanic at Castlewood Garage at 1a Pickford Rd, Bexleyheath, DA7 4AT who I know will sort you out, no problem.
However, if you're too busy to work on your bike mate you've got you're priorities all wrong... lol.
