Hey guys, I went for a ride on my Bullet 65 last night to ACE Cafe, everything ok on the way there in day light. Put my lights on for the way home, got a few miles up the road and the headlights, pilot light and tail light went. I managed to limp home using the light from a mates big BMW riding alongside. Indicators worked and brake light worked.
Charged the bike up on a trickle charger today, but now the bike still wont start, pressing the starter button does nothing at all, not even the faintest click from the starter. I had previously modified the lights to run directly off the battery, and now even though i have fully charged the battery they dont work, not even the brake and indicators???
What have i done???

a bit of further investigation, the indicators and brake light work when the engine is running. and theres a blown 30A fuse in the LH tool box, one end of which is connected to the battery positive terminal, i dont have time to take the seat off to trace the other end. The little fuse box which holds the fuse has melted slightly, so it must have got really hot somehow before it blew. Any ideas?

Hi matey !!--- Blown a fuse ??.........I had a Bullet 65 myself a while ago and fitted a Boyer Power Box as per the enclosed instructions....Never had any problems at all.( But I had left it as direct lighting though )....What's really needed is a wiring diagramme showing your bike's electrics as they are at the moment, rather than a verbal description where you might have forgotten to mention something...Can you do that for us?? That way we'll all be reading ( Literally ) from the same sheet ---------Cheers.

Hi Ian, I can't remember what was done, but first thing is to get it running before you can start testing what has gone wrong. How is the battery, just because you have charged it, that doesn't prove it is good. Do you have spark, if not try running a wire from the battery directly to the + on the coil and see if that gives you spark, if not you have a points problem. Kick start it when like this because you have bypassed the ignition and remember to disconnect the coil wire if you don't get it started because you can cook the coil or flatten the battery if you walk away and forgot about it.

-------If you've blown a 30AMP fuse then you've got a short circuit somewhere I'm thinking and yes, that plastic holder WILL start to melt at that rate.....

Ian another thing since you posted while I was replying if you use those polly type fuse holders they will melt as you have found, fit one of those bakelite ones and you problems may be fixed. I have has several of those polly ones melt

Hi guys, unfortunately I can't remember exactly what I did, i tgink I wrote it down and drew it on a wiring diagram but I can't find that. I remember disconnecting a yellow wire from inside the headlamp shell!! The bike runs but only starts off the kicker, the electric start button doesn't absolutely nothing, I assume because of the blown fuse. The indicators & brake lights work but that's it.

Ok Ian, now you have to start with a test light to find out where you have power. I'm assuming that the blown fuse is in the power to the headlight feed that is now running through a relay? This is the only thing I can think of seeing that the blinkers/stop light still works. Horn? Tailight? are these still working. 30 amp fuse is way to heavy, 20 is ample. Forget about the electric start for the moment and concentrate on the headlight, far too many things can go wrong in the electric start wiring that will only complicate matters
