I have had some great service from this company! They re-chromed my front mudguard, did a superb quality job, but when I fitted it a bit of chrome chipped off the rim (it had flexed slightly when fitting and there must have been an invisible hairline crack on the rim).

I rang them and told them the story - they said that as I had been honest and admitted it was my fault, they would "see to it". I sent it back and it was duly returned having been completely redone and with no charge.

Hi James

Don't want to spoil the moment for you but there are two types of chrome plate the correct tripple plate method consisting of a nickle coat a copper coat and a chrome coat, the other is "SHOW CHROME" which has the chrome put direct on to the metal, the former would not chip in this way the second which is far cheaper and easier would chip and peel easily, Guess which you have?.

Beat me to it Dennis, chrome shouldn't chip off like that.

It is truly an art as well. The trouble with most chrome platers is that they are brutes with the polishing mop. Every hint of provenance is buffed off in the name of a shiney finish. A good polishing hand is the key to a quality job. Also Nickel is expensive so most don't put on enough and then the chrome will spot with rust. If the job is cheap then chances are it won't last.

Just to say, I have used V & G for quite some time and they have always done good work for me using the appropriate pre- plating nickel and sometimes copper to build over rust pitting. I specify if I want Trade Marks (as on wheel rims,) to be retained and they have always done this. Their chrome on wheels for instance is better than from a well known wheel parts supplier! When visiting them it is always noticeable that there a lot of high value components awaiting collection (Gold Star tanks and the like,) which seems an indicator of faith to me. Other opinions are available, and I have used other (lesser) platers.
