Hi, can anyone recommend a good open face helmet as my old one has been rendered obsolete due to a lack of available visors. Fancied a Premier vintage but again the visors seen impossible to find. Nexx look ok as do Davida (Royal Enfield) although they seem a bit pricey and I'm not sure about googles or how well the optional visors fit? Any comments would be very welcome. Cheers.

I have a Bell 'vintage' with visor from openfacehelmets dot co dot uk.
Plus two Davidas. Davidas are first class. Just buy goggles! Or Momo are excellent as they have visors.

Does your existing lid have 3 studs on the front? If so you could use the Bob Heath Jet Flip type ( can get on Ebay) which is what l do. Not perfect but really useful all round. My lid is an Arai Freeway and it works well.

My 'summer' lid is a Nolan, open face with full face visor, still reasonably cool but stops the bugs in your face, also has an air vent in the top, think it cost around £100 if I remember correctly, very comfortable.

The only way with helmets is to try for fit - not just size. Different makes suit different head shapes. Get it wrong and it can be an expensive way to give yourself a headache. But nowadays it getting harder to try before buying - with fewer and fewer dealers who stock a wide enough range.

My wife bought her Premier open face helmet from MotoCentral. Great quality, she loves it, especially the little visor which slides down from inside. They sell every type you can think of and have a shop near Wolvey (Hinckley), where you can try for size.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a good open faced helmet. Many years ago, through my own stupidity admittedly, I hit a kerb and was thrown over the handlebars and landed face down on the road. Such incidents always seem to happen in slow motion and I remember sliding along the road, visor being ripped away, thanking my lucky stars I was wearing a full face helmet. Cracked ribs and cut legs maybe but at least I kept my face. Lesson learned I wouldn't entertain an open faced now.
