OK fellas, I have a real blind spot when it comes to the electricals.. so I need a little guidance here.


I fitted the case stiffener yesterday, easy job, no problem. Then I thought I'd fire Thumper up and try my handiwork out. Thumper won't start.

Now, I'm sure the two things aren't related, as one touches nothing electrical when fitting a little jig to the crank housing, so I have a problem somewhere...


I have no spark from the plug. I took the seat off and checked the connections at the coil and plug. All appears to be in order. The HT lead shows no signs of a break or being worn through. The plug is virtually new.

Can it be, that the coil just "died"? Or should I start tearing the nacelle to bits and go there?

I'm in a bind here lads, so any advice is well received.

Ooops.. forgot to say, I've got a spark at the points.. so there is life there somewhere. And the battery is about new too..

Well, the low tension circuit is OK, so there's no need to tear the nacelle apart. The fault would appear to be anything from the condenser to the spark plug. I'd start a process of elimination by changing the spark plug and work backwards.

As Barry says, another plug first but coil can die like that,unusual but it can happen. A few weeks back I was riding my Inter and it just stopped with coil failure, no warning whatsoever

Yay! Thumper thumps once more...!! Thanks guys. I had an old spark plug lying in the saddle bag, "just in case", you know...

I replaced the spark plug and checked for a spark and guess what? It lit up like a christmas tree. Put the plug in, fuel on, ignition on and gave him a hefty kick and hey presto..!! Music to my ears..
