Hello...

So I have a failing starter motor(Thank the lord for a kick start!) and I want it fixed or replaced under the warranty that runs out at the end of this month ...

Thing is, i called the new importer/distributer MotoGB who told me that Watsonian Squire will honour the warranties that came with thier bikes....

Called Watsonian S and they told me that MotoGB had taken over every thing to do with Royal Enfield including the [pre] exisiting warranties...

In a nutshell.

Under well-established consumer legislation it is actually the supplying Dealer's responsibility to rectify any relevant faults. They are normally able to claim reimbursement from the importer - but as to which one, that's not your problem: it's the Dealer's problem, and don't let them tell you otherwise! The phrases "Trading Standards Office" & "Citizens Advice Bureau" may come in handy....

As it's coming up soon and you want to do it without wasting time, maybe get advice from the Citizens' Advice Bureau or RAC / AA legal people if you're a member.... so you know better what the definitive position is? Look on the internet for contact details? Good luck, Chris

Hello NICK-------- I'm going to play Devils' Advocate here and suggest you check the actual wording of your Warranty as not all parts on a car or bike may be covered..Typically items that are deemed "Consumables" such as plugs, points, chains etc might NOT be fully covered OR were only covered for the first year out of say, a 2-year cover plan, for instance......A starter motor could well come within that sort of thing, but it wouldn't do any harm to check and be prepared, eh ??

If you bought it from a dealer, that's who provides warranty work. They are then reimbursed by the importer who is reimbursed by the manufacturer. Your warranty should not cease just because the importer changes. Anyway, just take it back to the dealer - he's the one who took your money so it's his problem.

Nick, I see you are getting a lot of advice. The correct answer is, if you check your warranty page 99 of your hand book - "Royal Enfield reserves the right to finally decide on all warranty claims"
For Royal Enfield read Royal Enfield India and the official UK importer. As there is no official importer at the moment we are all in limbo. As there is no official importer yet there are no official Dealers.
Your starter clutch is not a wear item and should be covered by your 2 year warranty you would just have to pay for the labour charge of fitting it. As to dealers, until the new importer is appointed we wait to see who they will give dealerships to. In short your only course of action is to lodge the fact that your starter clutch has gone in writing to; Watsonian Squire, your dealer and to Moto GB. Do this now before your warranty has run out. Comments like "The phrases Trading Standards Office & Citizens Advice Bureau may come in handy...." is not likely help you with a dealer who is no longer a dealer or an importer who is no longer a importer. A dealer can't fix a bike if he has no way of accessing parts. I sorry if this has been a bit long winded but write those letters now.
