Hi,
I am restoring my 1951 model G and I am searching for information of the original paint.

Did all come in black?
Did it have the gold stripe on the fender?
Etc...

Please help.

I am pretty shure the Model G was available in black only. You can have a look at my 1953 model if you read the thread "A picture of my Model G!". AfaIk the only difference between 1951 and 1953 is the tank. 1953 have all black tank with chromed badges, 1951 have black tank with painted logos and pinstriping. No pin striping on the mudguards on any of them. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Have a look at both models in the "Photo gallery" - "Original sales brochure pictures" down on the left side menu. Maybe this link will get you there: .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/ph ... category=4 .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- The G is a very nice motorcycle! Not very fast and not very fashionable, but reliable, with good handling and reasonably comfortable to ride, even on long trips. 840 km in three days is my longest trip so far, no problem. I have had mine since 2001, and only been let down twice. Both times Lucas was to blame (the magneto failed), not Royal Enfield. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- I just ordered 43 part numbers for it, including new fork legs, so now it's going to be much smoother on bumpy roads. I will never sell this one, that's for shure! .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Regards, Anders F. R.

According to Roy Bacon's book the 51 model G had a black tank with gold lining and a chrome plated top strip. The book is Royal Enfield, The Postwar Models and a very useful reference it is. S:)

Thank you so much! For some reason my tank is not chromed and with chrome badges so I will go for all black then.

Yes the chrome is an expensive option and incredibly risky unless you have a really good chrome plater that you trust. They can so easily polish through the tank and then you're stuffed. With the old ( now sold) bullet I went for an all paint finish but a mate of mine with Panthers opted for full chrome an whilst it looks magnificent it cost a kings ransom.
