After much measuring and checking against many manuals a thread forms that should be 9/16 bsf is in fact a 9/16 British cycle thread 20 tpi on the bike i am rebuilding !

Are you sure it's 20 tpi. If it is that's not BSC. BSC is 26tpi.
Or am I speaking with forked tongue?
