Yesterday I went out on the HImalayan for the first time since the lockdown, on a permitted journey to go to the Pharmacy in a nearby town (about 5 miles away) to collect a prescription. It was a very hot day by our (West Wales) standards. I parked the bike and as I was setting off to walk to the chemists's, I heard the Himalayan make a strange groaning sound in addition to the usual clicks and pings as the exhaust cooled down. When I returned about 10 minutes later, it did it again. When I got home, and put the Himalayan back to bed in his outbuilding, I waited to see if it would do it again and if so, try to work out where the sound was coming from. It did, but I couldn't precisely, all I could say is that it's sort of from the engine area. I wondered if it was the petrol tank becoming pressurised in the heat so I opened the cap, and a lot of pressure was released, but a few minutes after shutting the cap again, the bike let out another groan! It sounds like air/vapour going through a pressure valve that is sort of buzzing quickly open and shut. Each groan lasts between 1 and 2 seconds. Everything else is normal apart from the groaning. I must say it was very good to go out for a ride on it, especially with the town and roads so weirdly empty. It's like the beginning of "28 Days Later", only without the zombies.

Sounds like a air lock but I'm not sure how the cooling system is configured in the Himalayan
Hopefully someone that knows more about them than me can help

Too late to edit

Vacuum in fuel tank blocked breather?
Again not sure of the fueling system but could be a pinched breather tube
Have you had the tank off? or any panels

I haven't had the tank off, but it went into the dealer where I bought it for its first big service where they adjust valve clearances last august, not sure if you have to take tank off for that? It wasn't groaning before i put it away for most of the winter, but it wasn't warm weather either then. I've found a .pdf of the w/shop manual, i'll have a look in there. Thanks for suggestion!

Why did I think that it's water cooled?
Said I'm no expert

Valve clearances yes tank off, they could have pinched a pipe

Hopefully someone with more experience of modern bikes than me can chime in
