Scaleyback - unfortunately its not as simple as that. Eicher asked MotoGB to take over the franchise in 2013 having got rid of Watsonian first. It has to be said its not totally down to MotoGB - Royal Enfield give very little support to their franchises. The same has happened in the US - replace a badly performing importer with another badly performing importer and then don't give them any support. MotoGB import another six brands and as they're only selling 1,000 units across all models why should they bother? Sid Lal is talking the talk but he ain't walking the walk. I'm afraid the facts are the Indians a) don't understand the requirements of Western markets and b) don't give a shite anyway as they're on target to make and sell 400,000 units this year at home. And this is the nub of the problem. Ten years ago they shipped 20,000 units - three years ago it was just under 200,000 and now they're about to double production again. No company can achieve that much growth and recruit and train the huge increase in staff to keep up. What has gone out of the window is quality control - oh yes, the factory may well have ISO9001 but as long as the boxes are ticked that will do. IMHO we could well see the last of the Bullet and derivatives arriving on these shores when Euro 4 has to be implemented in the New Year (pdf available on request). papasmurf - unfortunately ceoemails doesn't give any contacts at Eicher either here or in Chenai. I had to do a bit of digging through other contacts to get through to someone a bit more senior than the chai wallah at Eicher.

Well, I finally got an email through to Royal Enfield's CEO Siddhartha Lal (thanks papasmurf) and boy, the result was immediate and very surprising. The Dealer came round to my house at 9pm on Thursday evening and started 'advising' me in a very aggressive manner not to contact Eicher or MotoGB if I had any further problems with my new B5 in future but to only communicate with him! I'm starting to think that perhaps Eicher and MotoGB aren't wholly to blame for the state my new B5 was in when it was delivered to me . . . (this story to be continued, no doubt!)

Perhaps the problem is that Enfield India are not too popular with the better dealers as they prefer to deal with the Japanese and British brands. Therefore they take whoever is willing even if not really able.

That reminds me of the time 40 years ago when I wrote to Skoda GB the then importers of Jawa/CZ bikes to complain about the poor PDI on my CZ125 (yes, I know, but it was better to stay riding than give up and become a born again accident statistic years later). I had to wait when collecting it brand new because he couldn't bleed the posisquirt pump. Eventually he handed the bike over only for it to sieze on the way home. Having freed it off I took it back to the dealer to be met with the immortal comment "What do you want, a new bike?" Anyway Skoda GB resolved it for me but the dealer banned me from his shop. No great loss as he was a tosser anyway.

The petrol pipe - what ever RE used, the outer sheath of the hose dissolved in petrol. A drop or two must have escaped and got under the jubilee clip which turned the stuff into soft goo which loosened the clamp so more fuel got out which ... until one morning I started the bike and petrol jetted out.

Sorted with proper fuel hose and proper fuel hose clamps.

Opps, I hit post ... the point is RE used the wrong material for the fuel hose, and the wrong type of clamp - not fit for the intended purpose.

"Well, I finally got an email through to Royal Enfield's CEO Siddhartha Lal (thanks papasmurf) and boy, the result was immediate and very surprising."................................... Based on past experience dealing direct with the engine driver and not the oilrag, gets results. In todays business climate any motorcycle manufacturer getting a reputation for bad aftermarket service will get into problems. The more people who complain direct to the CEO about bad experiences something will get done.

Couldn't agree more papsmurf. I wrote to the CEO some four years ago (who was then Dr Venki Padmanabhan) when I had many niggling faults and a very bent frame on my EFI. The dealer (Harley Davidson) had been flaffing around for about six months with the importers with no result and empty promises. The result was immediate with a new frame and parts flown over within the week. Go to the top and cut out the prats in between.
