Hi nigelphoto,
I think I might have just agreed to buy your old Enfield from Jim in Stafford. If it's got leather panniers and it's a 2007 model that is.
Basically, do you think the bike is a going concern or should I back off before money changes hands?

Greaser: Sorry for the delayed reply but I've just got back from a week away in the South West on my Thruxton. It performed very well and, surprisingly, did better on fuel consumption than my friend's VFR800 V-Tec. He was a bit fed up with people admiring my Thruxton - it's the same with the C5....
Yes, what you have done to yours is what I'll do to mine when the warranty runs out. I've already drooled over the TTP website and got the OBDII lead. I met a guy in Cornwall who used to build custom Triumphs based on the Hinckley 900 twin. He reckons Predators are the best exhausts. Apparently someone makes them in the UK under licence (they are American). An interesting guy; he made his own vapour cigarette thingy on a 3D printer. He also makes his own "fuel"......
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying your Thruxton; in my view a much better proposition as a cafe racer than the CGT. It makes a reasonable tourer too with the Hepco and Becker soft panniers and a Toutatech rollbag. I still like my C5 though for local lanes etc, especially since I put a carb on it. While it's true that the EFI parts are robust and well made the base program isn't much good and without spending a fair bit on a PCV it doesn't fuel very well. Even then the low end stutter seems impossible to get sort fully.

bigalfromwigan . . .my Maroon 2011 Classic 500 sold to someone in Grtr Manchester about 2 hrs after it went to Jim Wilson in April. The black bike you're looking at in Jones and Alcock is an Electra X. It looks in cracking condition and as a 2007 it should have the updated sprag, the weak spot on the electric leg on the earlier ones. Jim is a true RE enthusiast and a keen biker, many years experience in the Classic Bike racing scene and endurance racing - I've bought 4 Royal Enfields off J&A so either they're OK or I'm a masochist!

I forgot to mention, I bought my Thruxton Brand New & the dealership at my request ordered all the parts from BC USA & fitted them for me,set it all up with the remap etc & delivered it to me, regarding the warranty they said they would honour it despite the Mods. Before you go for the TTP, just go for the mods I have done first,.... then if you want a bit more you can send the ecu off to TTP & they will remap it for you, but you will then have to remove the 02 sensor on the downpipes for this kit....but to be honest I think you will be more than happy with just the performance mods I have done... "Squaredeals motorcycles UK" also now supply all the BC parts.

Hi Nigel, sorry for the confusion, but based on your words, I'm going to buy me a bike! If I get time for leisure rides, I'll give you a wave if we pass!

Greaser: My supplying dealer only seemed interested in fitting Triumph-approved exhausts and appropriate Triumph map. I can wait for a bit. BTW the bike is a s*d to clean - the penalty for looking good I suppose. Oh well. A friend of mine had a Rickman Honda. That looked nice and went well and was a vast improvement on the standard fare. Back in the day I had a lot of friends who rushed to buy CB 750s only to trade them in fort Tridents, Rocket 3 s or Commandos as they didn't like the poor handling and rubbish brakes....I would have thought that a 5TA engine would look a bit lost in a featherbed frame. Much better with a pre-unit IMHO.

Hi again Rattle'

My local dealers in Yorkshire would not fit the BC after market parts even if buying a new Thruxton, so I rang around the country & got Laguna Triumph in Kent who did the business & without hesitation...terrific service & the manager even delivered the bike personally & for Free........PS...I also upgraded the front & rear suspension using ICON ajustable rears shockers & progressive front springs...the difference to stock is huge!...........
if I new how to put photos on here without all the hassle I would show you the Thruxton, unfortunately I cant copy any links on here for the Thruxton as I have not got the links to copy...........

Regarding the CB750 mine handles brilliant as good if not better than the Thruxton & if you have not noticed in the photos I have had twin front discs fitted.

Yeah the 5TA did look lost in the Dommie frame, it was something he'd scrounged from a crashed bike. I remember we had fun making engine plates to fit it, I think they were dural. He was an engineering apprentice and had free reign in their workshops.

Just thought it might be of interest for the postscript on this. I emailed Eicher India setting out clearly quite how bad are their products and the importers and that Siddhatha Lal's plan to conquer the middle market sector worldwide might be a dream for him but its a living nightmare for us, the customers. Within 24hrs of sending the email I got a 'phone call from the Customer Relations Manager to tell me how seriously they are treating this matter and that they had arranged to uplift the Continental 535 which now lay in pieces all round the Dealer's workshop and they would be inspecting it to determine the cause of the problems. No breath will be held during this process . . . .

Chris of C & C motorcycles, Kent does not sell new Enfields anymore due to Moto Grabbing Bastards (GB) being 'difficult' over warranty claims.

So what comes first?, We lose a load of RE dealers or Moto GB get given the Royal kick?
