For Alan R (and anyone else who was wondering...).
The inner chaincase on the pre-EFI electric start models is mounted at different points where it bolts onto the l/h crankcase, in order to clear the starter motor's gear train.
If you eliminate the E/S mechanism completely and fit the kick-start inner chaincase, the three mounting stud holes no longer line up. Fortunately the E/S models crankcase castings still have the metal in place to allow the stud holes to be drilled and tapped in the original position. Have a look at the gasket section of our hosts' catalogue at part nos. 144621 and 560052.

You will see that the gasket to fit between the inner chaincase and the crankcase will have the three mounting stud holes in different positions for E/S and K/S models. You cannot just rotate them round because of the position of the hole for the 4th stud, upon which the primary chain tensioner pivots.
I did this mod with my Electra's conversion to K/S only and will have to do it again for the current project.br>
