Hi Tim, pretty low production numbers in the scheme of things, no wonder there is no parts available for them on ebay, one day they will be as rare out here as a Super Meteor, just maybe not as sought after

I just remembered strange information I saw on another Enfield forum written by "Ric" in 2014:
"There are four pistons available for the ElectraX, sized A,B,C & D.
The top of the barrel should be marked with one of these letters to enable the correct piston to be fitted during initial assembly. A is the smallest and D the largest. The D piston is almost an interference fit in an 'A' bore, so an undamaged but not too heavily worn 'A' sized bore can be honed to an 'as new' fit on a D piston. "
Has anyone heard about this?
The original piston of my 2005 Electra indeed bore a letter "B" and new replacement from our host's a letter "A".

I think I read Ric's original post, but this does have a precedent. ISTRC BSA B44 Victor pistons and barrels were the same, though I think there were only three categories, but the object was to match the letters. All this ceased to be relevant when re-bore time arrived. A.

Might be something to do with manufacturing tolerances..?
BMW used the system of three size pistons in their nicasil/galnikal barrels.

As did Motoguzzi. I had a 850 Le mans, and it was the same.

Also the Guzzi cylinder's are hard chrome plated. But Electra has only iron sleeve in alloy cylinder.
Where did you get this information, Ric? If I'd known this earlier I could have made some measurements.

Came direct from the main man at Watsonian Squire back is 2007 when they were the UK importers.

The A marking on the piston can be seen quite clearly here. This was done to get a obtain a tighter production line assembly tolerance between barrel and piston

Hello everyone
I bought a 2009 Bullet with a sized engine and trying to rebuild. Any recommendations and how can I determine which engine I have since after reading your post it could well be an export. I am in South Florida(Miami)

Thanks in advance for your help

Best regards
Joe

A 2009 Electra would have a unit construction engine I should imagine - mine has.
Same engine as the other UCE bikes, C5 & B5
