Henry Price was very helpful, had some 500207 circlips there and they were as he predicted the flat type, not round wire type. I sent him photo of my piston and circlips which he thought were the original fitment, clearly there are some grey areas here.
So I have asked at the bearing people, no luck, and another chap who restores and races allsorts and he couldn't find any suitable but said he would reuse the circlips as they don't look to be damaged.
I have seen 20mm X 1.5mm Mahle circlips at a Husqvana specialist so shall try there.

I have ordered the Husqvana Mahle circlips that are round wire type and 20mm X 1.5mm so fingers crossed I may get the engine re assembled and then look into the original problem.
