There is also a slight chance of the valve seat coming loose.
If the seat comes loose the pushrods get out of control, too.
Just for piece of mind, you could check the distance of the valve stem end to the bottom of the head/lower spring washer and compare to what it was when you fitted the valves...and hopefully noted the readings.

No readings but I do have very high quality digital pictures which I should be able to measure off.

I'd say for the sake of an oil and filter it would be worth changing the oil to ensure theirs no nasty swarf in the oil and may also be worth whipping off the rockers to check for seized rocker and a blow down the oil feed pipe to double check ( I found some bits of rocker stuck in the oil pipe on my head rebuild that had gone up the spout so to speak)

Already taken care of. It was getting a service anyway. I cut the filter open, it seems to have caught pretty much all the aluminium, there was nothing on the pickup gauzes or in the rocker blocks. Also checked the feed pump.

one thing i never go cheap on is the rocker oil feed pipes.



ones there's flakes moving in the engine you can never be sure there reusable, whatever you do to them(blowing air true them, running hi pressure diesel trough them, .....).



but most importantly what's the highest rev's you have pulled?



whit the kit in will rev quit happily to 7000rpm without you noticing.



it would be best to avoid anything above 6000rpm, if you want to ride it for a longer while on the road.

road and race bikes are to opposites and don't mix.

pushrods and high(er) rmp's dont go well together with indian quality.

As luck would have it there appears to be a second hand rev counter for an RE that has appears on ebay which may be of some use

Aye. There's a company who do an electronic rev limiter for classic cars that looks like it would probably do. It's very simple. Three wires, one either side of the coil and one to earth. The thing is mine has a self-exciting CDI. I'm not even sure what sort of voltage it runs on the LT side. I'll need to do a wee bit of research with both the rev limiter (accuspark) and ignition company (electrex) to see if they are compatible.
