Wow Guys many thanks and lots of advice. No need to apologies for the hijack of the thread:-) any healthy discussion and informed opinion and of course photos of fab bikes are always welcome in my book. I do intend on retaining original tinware, air filter housing etc. The tuning appears to be just smoothing out of the inlet and exhaust ports ( I did the finger insertion testing technique) chuckle
I was leaning towards a concentric and while I'm aware of the slide wearing issues I have never heard of the premier version. I ride bikes every day but plan on using this as a weekend bit of fun. I would like reliability in starting and working well without wearing out. I know very little about the big head bullet other than what I have researched since getting the bike. I am hoping the engine is standard without the extra stresses of increased comp ratios etc. It certainly has a nice feel when kicking it over but I have not actually started it yet. Not just from the carb issue butthe tank and mudguards were rusty so I'm having them professionally re-chromed and painted with matching side panels. Right now it seems there is not much difference between a conc and a monobloc so I will carefully re read the earlier advice you gents kindly gave and let you know.

Many thanks

Not trying to add to any information overload, but I forgot to mention that, assuming you're not too worried about total originality, there is a nice compact alternative to both monobloc and concentric. This is the flat slide JRC carb, which is a licenced Keihin copy (unlike some of the pit bike carbs from China). They are available for British classic bikes, so there will be a configuration for a 500 Redditch Bullet. Available here:
