And Frank, you are absolutely correct as I now Know, and am seeing what I can do to sort this out. You may all like to know I am supposed to certify that aircraft are safe to fly. As of yesterday, I walked away and said no, my mind was not in the right place.Somebody else looked over my shoulder. I could not say all was ok to fly. I had too much to think about in my private life. You may have been delayed, sorry if you were? I am 59, time to retire or get a f%cking big spikey stick for these people? i know some/most of you will think 'what the f*ck' but I just get so frustrated with stuff now.. Think it is time for bed...

Is it safe to come out now? Papasmurf, I'm afraid that I don't know the make of the cars, though they both look very similar. The photos are very good quality for early 1900s, so a local enthusiast thinks that he will be able to identify them.
Thanks for your interest.

Frustrating but not surprising as the DVLA now deal with so many things that they were not created to do.

selling our details, home addresses to private parking companies, even when many of these companies blatantly ignore the code of practise that allows them to do this.

Sending out fines for forgetting to renew your insurance on time. They don't sell insurance, don't advise on it, won't step in if it fails to pay out, so nothing to do with them really, sounds like a protection racket.

Assuming the whole world has free internet access. not easy to check a hire vehicle is taxed, when you are in the middle of nowhere trying to hire it.

grabbing two months vehicle tax whenever a vehicle is sold.

failing in their general duties of vehicle licensing. on receipt of a V5C, they'll make sure the new owner has paid the tax, but whether the change will be put on the computer, oh... and tea break is coming up soon!

Maybe if the DVLA stuck to Driver and Vehicle Licensing, then it wouldn't be so distressing for them.

Disclaimer: I am in no way suggesting that there is any similarity between the DVLA and the Mafia.

Apologies if already suggested, but what about AA, RAC or home insurance with Legal Assistance? The 1st two SHOULD be interested in helping out with this? If you don't have your own I think a family member or friend could ring up on theirs maybe? Good luck, Chris

It is most odd. Someone must have been issued with a reminder to tax it for the year 2013/14 and been in possesion off the correct documentation then with matching details on the reminder or registration document, insurance and mot. Similarly if the vehicle wasn't taxed or declared SORN in June 2014 as £200 automatic fine would have been issued. Where or to whom did that go? Perhaps the vehicle is registered correctly and the mistake is just the details of a previous owner have been passed to the debt collection agency. A friendly policeman, and there are some, may be able to do a PNC check on the plate and confirm at least if you are shown as the registered keeper, even if they can't tell you who is. Their records come from the DVLA so they should match.

So glad I live out here, so simple here you pay the money it is registered, you don't pay the money it isn't registered, can't drive on the roads.

I haven't read the full thread so sorry if I'm repeating other views but as far as I know your obligation is to inform the DVLA of the sale of the vehicle, via the V5. If you've done that, and they've lost it etc then you're in the clear. Failing that you would be liable for a fine for not notifying the them of the sale. Then your obligation is to prove that the vehicle is no longer yours by whatever means you can (receipts, witnesses etc). In law they cannot make you liable for a vehicle you no longer own. If necessary take legal advice which may cost a bob or two but might well save you time, money and lost sleep in the long run.
