Hi Simon

My old 77 350 had much the same set up as yours albeit with the uprated oil pumps and std barrell.. I was running an AMAL Monobloc and it went very well... I also had the competition valve set up and the close ratio gearbox with a 17 toothed final drive sprocket fitted...

Have you changed your Gearbox sprocket? mine has a 17 (16 std on Indian bikes) and that's given it longer legs on the odd occasion it wanders onto a motorway! I havent done any other mods to it yet worthy of note.. Still deciding what way to go with it......That'll all happen in the winter.

I was wondering if there was any advantage fitting the Forged piston over the Higher Compression piston as both are 8:1 so other than the fact that the forged item may or may not be lighter than the higher compression piston i cant see the justification for forking out the additional £100 for the Forged item over the cost of the HC Piston..... Just wondering?

Strenght is the advantage of a forged piston I believe. The 500's tend to eat pistons it seems but the 350's are kinder to theirs so its perhaps not so necessary. I've haven't changed the gearing on mine although I'm not sure if its standard or not. It was definitely higher geared than my old 51 Bullet but the gearbox has always worked fine so I've left it alone. S:)

Hi Simon

That's what I was thinking.. I suppose if I were going to hammer the bejeebbers out of it all day every day then the forged piston would be the way to go i.e. racing etc.

I'll stick with the HC option and find another way to pass the £100 on to Mr H :o)
