Hi Alan,
When they first appeared Tim Busby came up with a whole page of information and reasons as to why not to use a bronze floating bush. I didn't bother reading it because I won't fit floating bushes out here anyway

A white-metal big-end will give plenty of early warning with flakes in the strainers and the filter. The strainers should protect the oil pumps, so wonder how that might have jammed them.

From noticing flakes to doing something about it in mine was 4 months. That's the advantage of a plain bearing. If a roller packs up (as I had on a Suzuki) the engine jammed with the bits flying everywhere all at once! Needless to say, I will always use a plain bearing now.

I did a re-build on my 35,000 mile Bullet last year and as already said, poke everything out of the holes and air blast it throughly, but strainers and filters should have held it back. Do you have strainers and do you check them every 2000 miles at an oil change?

The tuning combination you're planning is what I originally did, before eventually going for the 'full monty' 612cc conversion.

Your plan will give you very good mid-range performance, enough to pull well with a 19-tooth gearbox sprocket, and you'll have achieved a very successful mid-stage tuning level that won't be any trouble in regular use.

Do it and enjoy the result! (But move over if my 612cc GT Cafe-Racer appears in your mirrors.)

Thanks Martin,
Good to know that mid range is still strong with these cams. I will order a 19 tooth gearbox sprocket on the strength of this!
