Alan - how about having the smaller plate permanently fixed, with the yellow plate fixed on top using the same holes? Then you could simply remove the yellow plate when you want to, and the smaller one will be there?

It's a fair bit smaller! I tend to put my yellow plate back on for MOT time and as the holes are in the same place it is a one minute job.
