Frank, yes I stood the new oil filter in a small jug of oil filling it from the center and allowing it to sit for well over half an hour submerged in oil while I did other things. The revs were raised above idle during the static test, in fact I slowly increased them over a period of half a minute to about half throttle in an attempt to find if there was any oil leaking under pressure. Obviously, I appreciate the fact the bike is air cooled etc. but the exhaust should definitely not be glowing the way it was - I'm making another assumption here, because the bike is a 'Watsonian' Woodsman, the pipe is single skin stainless - rather than a double skin item of the main stream machines! I'm not a huge fan of the exhaust system currently fitted to the bike, its a bit Heath Robinson and half a dam good way to burn a leg (if I had one lol). I'm off to ring a mate about Amal carbs, he was forever wittering on about them when he talked about the Goldstar thingy he had back in the 60's apparently

Onwards and Upwards Mates or Nil Carborundum take your pick!!! Paranoia has led me to spend more time in the garage, checking things out rather than riding, good job the weather down here in Devon has been on the rubbish side this weekend or it would be even more depressing!
