Yes its a horrible job, My old Dad used to be involved in one that did gold plating on cheap jewellery in the UK just after the War and he told me of blokes who worked there sitting on drums of cyanide eating their lunch and one old chap who had been standing over a plating bath for so long that the septum in his nose was gone. We've still got a few chrome platers over here but if you want cadmium to make nuts and bolts look right you need a contact in the aircraft industry. Something I sadly no longer have.
