Hi Mark just to add my experience of rotor/stator problems on my 1965 350 bullet I had a major engine malfunction that needed a complete re build I had the same problem with the clearance between the rotor and stator, ended up drilling the stator mounting holes out to allow more adjustment this worked to a degree with correct clearance on all but one stator but with a reduced clearance of(5 thou)on the last one ,and as a result good performance from the unit,as pete f said any clearance is bettr than none.

Something to muse on. Especially if you've given up imbibing for 2013!
I think Norm is bang on again with my crank issue? Took the bike out today, two good runs at all speeds, covered nearly 90k's. At the end of the first run this morning, the ammeter needle appeared static again! Checked the battery voltage, holding 8-10v. Did the second run and still nothing. I parked on an industrial estate to make some noise and test the alternator output. Back to square one it seems, with only high readings from one headlight and one charging circuit. I noted that the ammeter needle did flicker a couple of times, momentarily, when I was giving some big handfuls of throttle, statically, but, the way bike was trying to reverse away from me and shake from side to side is almost certainly the death knell for this Bullet? And giving it that welly, I've never seen small puffs of blue smoke out the exhaust until now either. All looks/sounds ominous! I'll take the primary cover off in the morning, and see what the damage is (again!).
A real shame, as that run today was a real stonker. With the 18t sprocket fitedd, upjetted VM28, still with the tea caddy, unrestricted Indian down pipe, and a cutdown (by 7") Indian Long Tom, in fact, virtually Alan R spec, it was flying. Pulling away in first was a revelation! Up to mid range was real "wow" factor. Only glitch was, just has been mentioned here today, engine wanting to die from 3/4 to full throttle, possibly meaning I just need a bigger main jet. Peanuts really, with that part costing a mere 52.5 times less than a good/used crank from our host's?
Anyone got a spare 500 lump lying about? Looked like 100's in that recent Youtube clip, but maybe collection from Chennai will be pushing it?................Off to check eBay out. BT

BT, I know it is frighteningly expensive but have a think about our hosts longstroke crank. By the time you rebuild the bottom end and find, if you can, a good drive shaft or think about fitting a diesel, the longstroke isn't that expensive but it will totally transform your Bullet into something special. As a 570 it will run the freeways easily with that extra get up and go, well worth it in the long run. Hurts at the time but over the longer period you wouldn't be able to wipe the smile off your face

Hmmm', not too sure Norm? The thought of paying more for just the crank from our host's, than what my 1200km bike cost (£970) is not a route I'll go down in a hurry.
As Micheal Caine said; hold on a minute lads, I've got a great idea......? Got to think about this like our Indian brothers do on Youtube (think large hammer and three spanners to strip an enine down?). Time will tell.
