When someone mentions a distributor in the vehicle ignition context I always have this sort of thing in mind:

http://www.distributordoctor.com

Those things literally **distribute** the HT current for sparks on a multi-cylinder engine to the different HT leads, so it's quite an appropriate description for the apparatus on a coil ignition RE twin, (before the Series 2 Interceptor at least) but there's none of that going on with a single, the entire HT output from the coil goes straight to the (normally) one plug. Nothing is being distributed. Our Indian friends call their Indian Bullet contact breaker thingy Delcos, presumably after Delco-Remy?

RE also for some reason insisted on calling the swinging arm a chainstay, and RE India describe the 3 phase alternator on the Electra-X as a magneto, which it obviously isn't, it's a permanent magnet alternator, not a self-contained spark generator.

I reinstalled the modified breather system with the bayonet oil filler cap. No leakage. I install again the oil temperature meter. The leaking appears again. Apparently that meter prevents adequate ventilation.

Well. Chainstay makes a lot of sense. That's what you'd call the equivalent part on a bicycle frame. The rear shock would be the seat stay.

RE might have been on their own with that one amongst motorcycle manufacturers.

Meanwhile I suppose You could have an oil temperature gauge mounted on the handlebars somewhere with a sensor fitted to the oil tank. Some car-type gauges are only 52mm diameter, it should be possible to construct a nice neat housing.

Spot the age-related number. Mine was the side-points version, the SS80 no less. BSA must have annoyed a few Brough Superior fans with that.
