ok so battery charged for a good ten hours and left overnight, still showing 12.35 v so suspect thats duff, the extra earth lead is from the amp meter and goes direct to the negative terminal off the battery
refitted to the bike and started it, unpluged the reg/rec thats fitted gives 12.6v so suspect some of that is surface charge, plugging the reg rec back in gives 15.10v tested using the dc setting on the multimeter, fitted the other two combined reg/recs i've got (1 is the original) and both give the same 15.1.
so is it now a case of replace the battery and retest? or could the small regulator in the headlamp system have failed causing the extra charge back down to the battery?
