IF you have lubricated everything properly when reassembling the engine then all this walking about to prime the lube system is unnecessary.
The engine will be fine for the few seconds it takes to prime.

A few seconds or eighty down strokes on the kickstarter on my last rebuild before oil reached the top of the rocker feed pipe. Now being a lot older and a little wiser (when my memories not too clouded by medication) I'd just leave the crank at BDC and wait till I see oil dribble out of the sump from wet slumping before replacing the sump plug - easiest solution of all to ensure there's oil at the big end on first start up.

In reality, it takes a lot longer than a few seconds to prime the oil system on a bullet by running the engine following a full rebuild. More like a few minutes.

When I first fitted a set of high flow pumps to my 350, it came with an instruction sheet from our hosts about priming the system. So cracking the quill bolt and the rocker feed banjos then nipping them up again when they start to weep oil. Took about 2 minutes of idling for it to reach the quill bolt and another minute and a half for it to reach the banjos. The instruction sheet warned this would likely be the case.

Since then, I've taken to priming it without the engine running.

Hi Guys !!----Interesting reading and I hope that all is well now ??.......A couple of things that might help reduce waiting time after an oil change }---a) Our hosts do an "Oil filter packing piece" on page 15 of the 2016 / 17 Catalogue....This reduces the volume inside the oil filter itself.......b) Keep a new oil filter pre-soaking in a container of 20/50 oil....Incidentally, don't forget that the oil filter itself is under a spring loading when fitted and must be free to move...

I was worrying about nothing. It fired up (after a fashion) and immediately pumped a load of oil out of the loosened rocker banjos.

Now to get to grips with the carb which has been sat in a shed in a bucket of parts for the last 5 years. I've cleaned it and reassembled it how it was on the basis it was probably running before but it's clear someone has been messing with it. Start from scratch I think.

Hi STINKWHEEL-------- I'll probably get shot by our hosts for this but I have a spare VM28 that you are welcome to have for a small "consideration" ??...Tip}--- Take the time to get that float height set correctly and be guided by our hosts recommended jet settings on Page 18 of the 2016 / 17 catalogue... 019523719339 after 7.30 weekdays..
