Just read an article in MSL about the Mash TT40, one of several new models coming to the UK that are Euro IV compliant. The TT40 looks gorgeous and undercuts the CGT in price, before allowing for the £300 price increase cited as the additional cost of making the CGT Euro IV compliant. Although down slightly on claimed bhp against the CGT, the tester, who also has a CGT on long-term loan, reckons that the TT40 feels faster..Although not quite as powerful it weighs a lot less. Mash is actually a French company, though the bikes are made in China (as I believe are some BMWs) to their spec, using a copy of the old Honda XBR engine, downsized to 400cc. RE needs to be very careful as it seems there are lots of competitors in the markets they are targeting, Quite fancy a TT40 myself.

Despite the many potential faults in any royal enfield in comparison to any chinese engined bike I would feel far more confident in the fact that 5 years or more after purchase I would still have no problem getting parts for an enfield. As for these engines that are appearing based on a honda xbr engine I would say test one first. I owned an xbr 500 years ago and on paper it ticked my boxes but in reality I just found it dull = sold within 2 years.

I'm afraid the Himalayan doesn't tick the retro box for me and as an enduro/trail bike, their are other better offerings. I believe the little BMW is made in India. I'm wondering where RE are going to Euro-4 their main Bullet range.

Pics of the 2017 Euro-4 Classic looks like it's received the swinging arm and disc brake off the Thunderbird, with added ABS. But what have they done with the emissions, have they improved the injector/ecu system?

Try cmwmotiorcycles.com (sorry, you'll have to navigate your own way there). If you want a non-Euro IV compliant bike it's getting close to the time to buy one 'cos unless they're pre-registered they cannot be sold post 2016. There is also a comment indicating that the EFI has been tweaked (Oh no!) As for the rear brake, isn't it more to do with the fact that it isn't hydraulic than that it is a drum? My Polo has drum rear brakes and ABS. Or is it that ABS cannot work with drum brakes because of the springs on the brake shoes? I'm sure it would be simple enough to install an ABS ring and sensor. Do bikes and cars have to have ABS operating on all wheels to be compliant? Does anyone know the definitive answers to these questions?
