There's no reason you couldn't do Kevin a winter traily kit - 18" back wheel, 19" or even 21" front with a change of front mudguard, sump bash plate and suitable tyres, then put him back to standard trim when the summer comes. 2 bikes for the price of one? A.

Erm, no Adrian :-)

Having seen some of those 'bobber' photos, I just couldn't.

Anyway, still getting Kevin back to original, except for the golden arrows that is, but all reversible, and he (almost) always starts first kick, so I am very grateful for that and must be doing something right!

Rather than a bobber I was thinking much more along the lines of a '50s ISDT-influenced street scrambler with some tires that would cope better with the French winter, that was all, with Kevin put back into original trim when spring finally sprung. Suitable off-road tyres probably aren't available in the right section for Kevin's WM2 x 17" rims, hence the suggestion for larger wheels. A.

Correct RoSy, copies of famous cave art. Well spotted!

Adrian, do you have a photo of the sort of thing? I probably won't but would be interesting to check out.

Hi Scaly,

as ever, look back into the factory archives. 1956 Indian Tomahawk, perhaps, thanks to our hosts for the photo!

As you see, nothing too extreme, most obvious is the upswept silencer, which you probably wouldn't need, all the tinware amidships is undisturbed and your existing back mudguard has loads of room for an 18" back wheel with a 4.00 x 18" trials tyre. At the front, if you sort that droopy front mudguard out with a slighty shorter pair of rear stays and measure clearances, you might have room for a 19" Continental front on/off road tyre used on the Watsonian-Squire trails Bullet conversions, if not just fit a larger radius mudguard and paint it maroon. Bearing in mind your new-ish centre stand was intended for bikes with 19" wheels, that will be OK, mine still works on ASBO12 with a 21" front wheel. See the picture under the Side stand topic for some idea of how the 21" front wheel and 18"back wheel look on a Redditch frame.

Of course I have not properly researched the availability of 17" trials/enduro tyres or 18"front trials/enduro tyres, there might just be something that will fit Kevin's existing wheels without being too wide for the forks or swinging arm.

I'm stuck with the droopy mudguard. It has indentation in it, where the forks pass by. and whoever made the thing got the angle of the indentations wrong, so if I got shorter stays, the change of angle would mean that it would not fit in between the forks !!!!

bike in artwork looks nice

Hi Scalyback,
As you know, I agree with Adrian regarding the front mudguard stays, I don't believe that the indentations are wrong, why would they be? TRY IT, put the shorter stays on, I am sure you will find that everything still lines up!
It's an optical illusion>
Take another look at mine. Hope the photo uploaded ok!)
What do you think Adrian?

I tried it, and the forks touched the side of the channels in the mudguard. It's possibly the usa type guard that was fitted the other way around?.

see? there you go, as it is , lines up exactly. try to get guard straight and it all goes wrong.
