Bill, my scottish friend used to squeeze a can or two into his bagpipes. It made them airtight.

I agree the fuel tank in a mixer works as long as you can get all the gravel/bolts out afterwards, pea shingle also works. I strapped a car fuel tank to the front of a cement mixer once and rotated it for a while. It was amazing the muck tat came out. Frosts auto do a great cleaning and after treatment system that work's well but is a little expensive I will be using this on my RE 125 tank soon.

We used to use a few handfuls of sand and take turns shaking it. Otoh you might like to find your local powder coating shop and ask them to blast the insides for you (they don't use actual sand in their sand blasters these days).
