at the moment I'm using vice grips clamped onto 2 teeth of the sprocket, but it's not doing it. The chain idea seems golden, that along with the crème brulée burner should do the trick (I hope)

I've put my bmw for sale to fund my growing Hitchcocks bill today!

Might be time to pull out the hammer and chisel and get a new nut, if you don't have a rattle gun, this might be your only option

Reading your account Stefaand I suspect you are applying steady pressure on the socket wrench.
A sharp blow is the only way. if no rattle gun available then do as I do - hit the bugger with a big hammer! Works wonders!
In the unlikely event that does not work then do as Norm suggests - Break the nut with a chisel

Before you start getting too serious with the big hammer etcetera, what bike is it?, some have a locking washer but most of the Reddich built bikes and some of the early Indian bikes (I think) have a grub screw placed half in the shaft and half in the nut to lock it in place if it is one of these then using force with it in place will almost certainly cause damage to your gearbox before the nut comes undone.

Sorry guys Too early in the morning, the grub screw on the early Enfields is in the sprocket at the side of the nut. Please ignore my previous post. I will now go and have some humble pie for breakfast.

Thanks Norm, just a senior moment, too early in the morning and getting two makes of bike mixed up. I must learn to wake up properly before posting.

I've been nice to it, I've been rude to it, now it is time to get vile. I heated the nut, froze the inner, had a friend help, we used a 1 metre long bar to help leverage, whacked it with a hammer, nothing moved. I'm going to use a chisel to break the nut in half, as Norm suggested tomorrow.

In other news, was taking the fork tubes out. Got the thread to release and they screw out with some persuasion, but now they seemed to have stopped. They arent stuck in the thread anymore, they are not stuck in the bottom yoke seeing as they spin freely, but they won't come out! Ive tried a gentle tap at the top but this makes no difference. Any ideas?
