Best mounting a 12v power socket in the near side tool box so it don't get wet in the rain and get a magnetic tank bag for the sat nag, also out of the rain and suppresses vibration so you can actually see it, used to have mine mounted on the handle bars but found it useless when ticking over while stopped, also how about one of these portable usb power packs, will keep the battery topped up for hours.

I used a power socket kit for a BMW R series bike about £28 complete. Fit a Din plug to the sat nav and job done. You can also use the socket to power heated clothing etc or plug your charger in.

Mounting it behind the windscreen will keep it out of most of the weather. I slip a Glad sandwich bag over it in pouring rain.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies, a little light has just come on.. After reading your reply Gwilly it dawned on me that I also have an Oximiser (Oxford)permanently wired to the battery. Found the old packing box and lo and behold, a connector with crocodile clips to attach to the battery. Snipped off the clips, soldered the connecting wire from the sat nav and bingo!, problem solved. Sometimes can't see the wood for the trees, must be an age thing.
