The 91080 silencer with baffle fully 'tanged' iso only marginally louder than a rusty, extremely holed, stock torpedo silencer :) but does look great! Without baffle you'll have ex-soldiers ducking for cover...

About these silencers: my EFi is definitely noisier than my old Electra X, both on their stock silencers. I much prefer the noise of the Electra: it was softer, like a kind of "duff duff duff" whereas the EFi is a much harder sound: "blat blat blat".

It's odd that the EFi is louder - I would have expected the opposite bearing in mind the way most of these regulations are going. One of my little projects will be to find a more agreeable-sounding silencer for it.

I have fitted silencer 91045 and pipe 91020 to my Electra X. The sound is louder and is more of a 'blat' than a 'burble'! I initially thought it was perhaps too loud, but I have got used to it now. As mentioned earlier, the weight difference is immense, I would guesstimate the original setup as being 3 times the weight - at least! I appreciate the short silencer is not to everyone's taste, but the access I have gained to the rear wheel/frame is considerable...much, much easier to clean for instance.

Bikerbill-Hitchcocks sell a paired silencer and exhaust that do not need a power commander - even with the K & N filter - it is one that goes inside the standard airbox as i said. The exhaust noise is louder and i have put some wadding around the removeable baffle which helps a bit. I did buy a larger baffle but it was too large. I probably could have cut it down but i didn't bother in the end.I do wear ear plugs so the extra noise doesn't really bother me. I mainly ride it down quiet country lanes and the only problem i suffer is with horses. There was a big weight saving as others have pointed out.Fuel consumption is pretty much the same at around 85 mpg which is a bit more than my Electra but that's progress and 85 mpg is still great by my standards.

Thanks Martin. I've never had any trouble, apart from occasional backfiring, with the various aftermarket exhausts I've tried. But Hitchcocks do make much of the need to install the Power Commander when also using a more free flowing air filter. Probably they mean the external type rather than the now available standard airbox replacement type to which you refer. Good to know the ECU adjusts to these readily, although mixed results are reported on the US forum.
I too get 85mpg consistently, but expect that'll change if I go ahead with the 535 upgrade later on...

Mine does backfire occasionally but other than that it's fine.I'll be interested to know how you get on with the 535 conversion if you go ahead Bikerbill.I've not looked at the us forum so i'll go and have a look now.
