I suspect Scaly's link "Unlikely father for dreamliner" was a link to the artikcle from Lauwry Watts book, Whats my line, an excellent book on Lauwry's
Life as draughtsman and artist/ designer. He drew most of the line and exploded drawings in the bike and motoring press, and designed the Dreamliner. The link didn't work on my iPad unfortunately.

Is it just me who finds that fairing ugly in the extreme?

No, it's ugly in the context of looking back on the 1950s from here. You sort of need to see it in the context of Dan Dare and that kind of "futuristic" thinking! The other bike, the less well known faired 500 twin (Meteor Minor) looked much more understated without being quite as weird. If only someone could find some pics...

As regardes the 500 meteor minor with airflow fairing and rear enclosure i have some original factory photos of this if i can work out how to copy these and down load them i will do,also have have photos of the matching crusader somewhere as well

Nope, still think it's ugly and I did in the 50s/60s too. I always like my bikes naked, not even a screen for me.

I just came across this thread by accident.

Regrading the 500 Meteor Minor "ex-experimental Airflow Super", it does still exist. I bought it from a local farmer in 1979 - it was being used round the farm tracks,had been painted white,lost the front fairing but still had the mudguard.

I ran it for a few years in the early 80s, but wife and family meant it was moved further and further to the back of the garage.

It is need of quite a bit of work, and replacing the fairing with the indicator pods seems problematic. As retirement looms I am hoping to put some effort into getting it back into a decent state.

The "ex-experimental ...." is from the old buff log book - it wasn't registered until 1967! I guess it had lived in the factory until they started to go down and needed the cash.
