I'm confused chaps, Barnes says (quote) "instead it drips from the hole in the underside of the carb splitter manifold" (End Quote)

What Hole ??? Not that i'm familiar with the meteor setup, but i am with various other single carb twins.. someone please explain?

Why is the fuel finding its way from the float chamber to the manifold without showing at the tickler..?

If someone has overtightened the jet block could it crack the alloy casting and allow the fuel to bypass the jet?

As Mark says 240~250 jet won't make that sort of difference, something odd somewhere..
Can you fit your spare carb Barnes, see if it makes a difference..

Hi Gwilly, It is a strange one, in the underside of the manifold splitter their is a tiny approx 3/4mm hole just after the carb manifold, It doesent look like and addition someone has added, it looks to be part of the casting, i have a second manifold and this has the same tiny hole in it. Unfortunatly the spare carb i have really is just that, it is in very poor condition and will take me hours to get it cleaned and polished upto the standard of the rest of the bike. this may be my only option if the problem persists as i cant justify £140+tax for a new one. i would be gratefull if someone could shed some light on this part of the problem though. Many thanks ed

my 2 drachma says do not rebore, the most that may be necessary is replace the rings. I have found NGK plugs die very quickly with only a moderate anount of oil getting into the combustion chamber. Iridium plugs seem to be more tolerant thought there other opinions. A carb strip & clean would be good thing would be check & probably replace the float needle. But better still look at this first http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/hi ... s-monobloc

HI beexabryan, The engine has had new rings fitted and they have lasted approx 150miles before this problem became serious. The plugs were getting sooted/oily right from the get go though. I thought that with carefull riding over a few hundred miles would bed the new rings in, but it has served to make the problem worse. I wouldnt rebore the engine without having first exhausted all other options. This i think is the last option, as i want this bike to be reliable and i want to be able to use it on a regular basis.

thanks ed

New rings may be hitting the old wear ridges on the bores if they are that worn.

Damaged top rings are a possibility. Got to be stripped and checked anyway..
